Contemporary Art Showcase and Workshop

Art

Hyatt House Niseko will be showcasing a contemporary exhibition of the ancient Japanese handcrafts of Mizuhiki and Kiri-E during August.

Mizuhiki is an ancient Japanese craft which uses the yarn of Japanese paper to create intricate woven decorations. It has been used to symbolize friendship and celebration for over 1,000 years. Niseko resident Saori van den Brink has skillfully transformed this ancient style into a cosmopolitan range of fashion accessories, house decorations and more.

Kiri-e, another Japanese artform, uses paper cut-outs to create beautiful pieces of art. Taka Yokoyama is a leader in the field, and will be showcased during the exhibition as well.

Both artists will be present during the event and will provide complementary workshops for those who would like to try. The kiri-e workshop will be held on 10th August and the Mizuhiki workshop will be held throughout 10-12 August. In addition, there will be artworks available for guests to purchase. H Restaurant & Bar will be offering signature non-alcoholic cocktails during the event and a modern Italian-Japanese lunch menu will be available from 12pm – 5pm.

Date : 10th August to 12th August

Location : Lobby and H Restaurant at Hyatt House Niseko

Life In Colour Exhibition

Yuichi Hasegawa

Introducing the new exhibiting artist at Ki Gallery, Yuichi Hasegawa, with “Life In Colour”.

Born and raised in the Niseko area, much of Hasegawa’s art is full of colour. For the 2015 Cow Parade, a charity art event held in Niseko, Hasegawa artfully covered a cow statue in countless colourful beads. He used almost 30,000 beads to create the masterpiece. Although he uses different materials for different art projects, there is always a range of colours.

In recent years, he has noticed the influx of different cultures to the Niseko region. For him, this situation is like seeing many different colours come together. People from all over the world, from different races and cultures, each bringing their own unique colours. This phenomenon is creating a beautiful design that he thinks is like an art. “Life In Colour” mainly exhibits canvas work from 2018.

Date : June 1st to August 31st

Location : Ki Gallery at Ki Niseko
