Early Covid-19 Vaccination Program Underway in Niseko

Over 200 tourism related companies have access to the vaccination program

An early Covid-19 vaccination program got underway in Niseko on the 2nd July with more than 2,500 local residents signing up.

The Kutchan Tourism Association applied to the government through the workplace vaccination program for companies with more than 1,000 staff. This program started across Japan in June and provides an efficient way to vaccinate large numbers of the population. With no specific schedule for when the general population under 65 will get access to vaccines, it is hoped that vaccinating Niseko front-line workers will provide a boost to the local tourism industry before the peak of summer in the middle of August.

The program is available to staff working directly in hospitality, other businesses involved with supporting the service and hospitality industry and their immediate families.

Japan is aiming to have the general population vaccinated by November 2021 and government talks have now begun with other countries regarding allowing vaccinated tourists back in to the country.
