Visitors and residents enjoyed an entertaining show at the 2020 Niseko Music Festival last night. Richard Tognetti and Members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) were the headlining performers, supported with gusto by the Mt. Youtei Junior Jazz School. This ensemble of international and local talent made for a memorable occasion at Tanta-An in the Grand Hirafu Mountain Center.

Back by popular demand, it was the ACO’s fifth consecutive show at the annual festival. The audience was taken on a satisfying journey through classical compositions and more contemporary masterpieces. Pieces by Bach, Vivaldi and The Doors were among crowd favourites. The ACO’s lead violinist Richard Tognetti is world-renowned and this year celebrates his 30th anniversary as an Artistic Director. His unmissable passion for music and storytelling through symphony kept the room captivated. We were also treated to vocals from Finnish, Japan-born Principal Violinist Satu Vänskä plus viola and cello from other talented ACO members.

The special concert featured a lively performance from Mt. Youtei Jr. Jazz School. The talented youngsters from around Niseko wowed the crowd with their professional yet fun style. They charmed the audience and garnered enthusiasm with songs like Waltzing Matilda and Tequila! Established in 2012 and now with over 30 children, this local school aims to promote jazz culture to the younger generation and harness an early interest in music.
