Niseko Hirafu Green Park

Now in its third year, Green Park is Niseko’s go-to summer hangout for families and groups of friends. This Matsuri is all about discovering something new, from meeting new people to seasonal local dishes. Fire Festival at Mikuni Shrine

This dramatic summer matsuri takes place on the rugged coastline of Shakotan and involves traditional fire rituals and performances that light up the shrine grounds. From torch processions to sacred ceremonies, it’s a unique chance to witness a more spiritual side of Hokkaido summer. It’s also a great excuse for a scenic drive along the coast, with plenty of hidden gems along the way, like Cape Kamui and the Shimamui coastline.

Niko Niko Summer Festival

One of Niseko’s most heartwarming community events, the Niko Niko Festival (which means “smile” in Japanese) is packed with fun for all ages. Expect classic festival games, tasty local food, stage performances, and plenty of reasons to smile. With this year’s special event, “Niko Niko Summer Idol”, the second day of the event promises even more excitement, perfect for those who like to sing and dance. It’s a true gathering of locals and visitors, right in the heart of Niseko.

Kutchan Jaga Matsuri

Kutchan’s biggest event of the year celebrates the humble potato (jaga-imo), a local hero crop. Over two fun-filled days, the town comes alive with colourful parades, stage performances, food stalls, and a fantastic fireworks finale. It’s one of the most exciting weekends of the summer, drawing visitors from across the region. With countless shops and festival games to discover, there’s fun around every corner.

And on Sunday, the excitement continues with the Hanazono Hill Climb, a competitive cycling race with scenic mountain views all the way up to the famous Hanazono Ski Area.

Niseko Tanabata Fireworks Festival

Tanabata, or the Star Festival, is a celebration of summer romance and wishes made under the night sky. Niseko marks the occasion with a stunning fireworks display lighting up the landscape. About 1,500 fireworks are set to light up the sky, wowing festival goers along with various experiences to remember. Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the show!

Niseko Hirafu Festival

A highlight of the Niseko summer calendar, the Hirafu Festival brings the whole community together.
