What to Eat in June

Try out the delicious Japanese delicacy, uni this month in Niseko.

Surrounded by clear blue seas, Hokkaido is home to many delicious seafood. In particular, Niseko has ready access to the freshest seafood in the world. This June, try the best seafood and local produce in season from around the area. 

Uni

Sea urchins are otherwise known as uni in Japanese and is considered a delicacy in Asia. Shakotan, located only two hours away from Niseko, is famous across the country for producing uni in the summer. The best season to taste sea urchins is between June and August. Drive to Shakotan or try the delicacy at An Dining or Shokusai Hirafu

Hokke

Hokke

Hokke, is a type of mackerel in season during June. The freshest hokke comes from Suttsu, a small fishing town in Hokkaido, however, you can find this in Niseko. Kagara transports fresh seafood from Suttsu daily including Hokke and other seasonal seafood.

White Asparagus

White asparagus is currently in season throughout Hokkaido. Many izakaya and restaurants around town have started to create daily special dishes with the vegetable. Check out Prativo in Niseko which serves a variety of local produce in their vegetable lunch buffet.
